KIWANIS MEETING OF SEPT. 2ND

PROGRAM

School board member Steve Fitzgerald tells us what's happening on the Leavenworth School Board. He is concerned that there was not more citizen involvement during the approval process of the new 74 million dollar school budget. No one questioned the new budget, but there seems to be opposition to the proposed 58 million dollar bond issue. (next week we will have a speaker concerning this bond issue). The Leavenworth schools serve 4,000 students with 11 school facilities.

He said that we have excellent schools but the present facilities give a negative impression to those who come to work in Leavenworth but decide to live elsewhere where they believe the schools to be better. The upcoming bond issue is designed to correct this problem by improving and building new facilities and closing some old ones.

OTHER HAPPENINGS

HELP WANTED! We need volunteers for the upcoming events: the BBQ Beef fund raiser on Sept. 11; the nacho stand on Sept. 12-13; the end of Sept race. SELL YOUR BBQ TICKETS!!
